A Burger Gathering for Ten: Meat Quantities and Cooking Batches

A relaxed burger gathering starts with sandwich numbers, not bags of buns. Choose portions and cooking method, then calculate meat, bread and toppings consistently. Varied sauces and vegetables offer choices, but cannot compensate for limited pan space or slow batches.

Calculating meat for a burger gathering

Ten sandwiches with one raw 150 g patty each need 1.5 kg of meat. Two 80 g patties per person require 1.6 kg. Adjust for appetite and side dishes; this is a serving plan, not a mandatory portion for everyone.

For an eight-patty pack, consider sandwich count as well as total weight. A double burger uses two patties even if the pack weight looks sufficient on paper.

A short preparation list

Prepare ten buns plus a small reserve, dry lettuce, sliced tomatoes, drained pickles and two sauces. Use small topping bowls replenished from the fridge rather than putting everything out. Keep cheese and sauces requiring refrigeration cold until needed.

Separate the raw-meat area from a clean assembly area. Keep a thermometer and flat spatula near the cooker, with a clean plate for each completed batch. Never return cooked patties to a tray that held raw meat.

Organising batches

If the pan holds four patties, plan three batches instead of crowding in ten. Have one person prepare buns and toppings while another cooks. Toast buns near the end of cooking and add sauce at the last moment to prevent sogginess.

Serve small groups with a ready side dish, or use a larger cooking surface if available. Do not partially cook meat and leave it to finish later; complete safe cooking in one continuous process. Keep cooked food at 60°C or above if serving is delayed.

What if guests eat less than expected?

Separate chilled raw reserves from serving batches early. Refrigerate cooked leftovers in shallow containers within two hours, or one hour when ambient temperature exceeds 32°C. Planning makes adjustments easier and reduces waste.
