Organising a Meat Freezer: A Simple Inventory

Organising a Meat Freezer: A Simple Inventory

An organized meat freezer does not require a complicated system. A clear menu, meal-sized containers, and a fixed place for each type are enough to reduce forgetfulness. The goal is to know what you have and what you will use before adding a new order.

Keep a short inventory

Record meat type, weight, freezing date and pack count on your phone or a list near the freezer. Update the count when you remove a portion instead of relying on memory.

Divide by use

Group mince, cubes and bone-in cuts separately if space allows. Label similar packs clearly. Adding a dish name, such as “camel meat for madghout”, helps with meal planning but does not replace the date.

Maintain temperature and packaging

Aim for -18°C or below and check with a suitable thermometer. Use wrapping that protects against air and leaks. Ice buildup alone does not prove stable temperature; follow the freezer's loading instructions so its operation is not obstructed.

Review the quality regularly

Quality duration varies with type of meat and packaging. Don't take freezing as a license to skip the product indefinitely, and follow package instructions. If the power goes out or products melt, assess their condition based on time and temperature rather than automatically refreezing everything.

Before large order

If you are considering a 10kg package of camel meat, for example, make sure you have space, a portion plan and packaging tools. Compare the previous month's consumption with the suggested amount. Larger size becomes practical when you know where it will go, not just because there is temporarily empty space.
